Work continues apace to refit GMIV

The engine and cockpit have stripped from GMIV as work on the famous yacht continues.

The shed at Camper and Nicholsons, Gosport, is a hive of activity as rotten sections of Chichester’s boat are removed.

Any parts of the historic vessel that can be salvaged are being carefully stored. The restoration team were particularly impressed by the quality of the joinery in the saloon.

The drawers, made of cedar wood for lightness, have stood the test of time remarkably well and will certainly be going back on board.
