Theo Stocker – Editor
Having caught the bug for yacht cruising as a teenager on the rivers of the East Coast, Theo has since explored far and wide under sail – north to the Lofoten Islands, south to Morocco, the Gambia and Senegal, east to the Baltic and the Mediterranean and west to the Caribbean.
He sailed the family Hallberg Rassy 31 for a number of years, but is now the proud owner of a Sadler 29, kept on the Lymington river, from where he and his wife Georgie cruise both sides of the English Channel with their son.
After stints in the Royal Navy and in public relations in the City, Theo combined the best of both worlds and began writing for Yachting Monthly as a freelance contributor. He joined the team in 2014 and has been editing the magazine since 2017.
Dennis O’Neill – Technical Editor
As one of the UK’s most experienced marine journalists, Dennis has edited European Boatbuilder, Superyacht Business and Marine Professional and worked as features editor on Motor Boat & Yachting and production editor on Yachting Monthly.
He cruises out of Chichester aboard his family’s Bavaria 36 and is a keen dinghy sailor.
Neil Singleton – Art Editor
Toby Heppell – Digital Editor
Toby was born to a dinghy racing family and was surrounded by sailing more-or-less from birth. He received his first boat – a bright red Optimist dinghy – for his fourth birthday and has been outon the water as often as possible from then on. He has won World and National titles and captained his University sailing team. It was during his time at university he discovered keelboat racing and continues to sail big and small boats to this day.
After leaving university in 2005 he got a job writing for an online sailing publication and has continued writing for both cruising and racing publications ever since, covering two Olympic Games and other events across the globe.
Fox Morgan – Digital tech editor
Hailing from that well known seafaring port of Chesterfield and brought up with a family of engineers, Fox Morgan is an STCW, GMDSS and YM Ocean qualified maritime professional as well as NCTJ qualified photojournalist since 1997. On the water, they go by the name Captain Flashheart.
Julia Jones – Literary contributor
Julia Jones was born in Woodbridge, Suffolk and spent much of her childhood on board Peter Duck, the yacht that had been built for Arthur Ransome. Her bunk was created from the space where Ransome had planned to store his typewriter — it was the perfect reading spot. Julia read English at Bristol University. After opening a bookshop in the Essex village of Ingatestone, Julia developed a local publishing business under the Sarsen imprint.
Julia has also worked as a part-time OFSTED lay inspector, an adult education tutor, and community organiser. Julia completed a PhD with a thesis on Family Fictions at University of Surrey. She now runs the Golden Duck publishing company with her husband Francis, is editor of The Deben magazine and a co-founder of John’s Campaign dementia support group, in addition to being YM’s literary contributor. Julia has written many books, both fiction and non-fiction. She still owns and sails Peter Duck, sometimes with her own children and grandchildren.
