Paul Gelder has been promoted to editor following Sarah Norbury’s move to take the editorship of IPC Marine Media sister title Practical Boat Owner.

After 20 years working on weekly newspapers, Gelder joined Yachting Monthly as features editor in 1990 and has been the title’s deputy editor since 1997. Publisher Jessica Daw says, “Paul has an excellent journalistic background and is well thought of by his colleagues. I am looking forward to working with him to take what is already a very successful magazine, on to the next phase of its development.”

Yachting Monthly has been showing growth in its readership for the past two years, evidenced by ABC audits on its circulation and Gelder wants to build on that platform: “Having worked with some of the best marine writers in the business,” he said, “my mission now is to refresh and reinvigorate the magazine so it remains the UK’s most popular cruising magazine.”

Paul’s sailing experience commenced in 1982, aboard a Cape Cod catboat. That was followed by a 20ft Robert Tucker Princess and he currently sails a Telstar trimaran. A former committee member of the Ocean Cruising Club, he has blue water passages aboard other craft in his log and two yachting books to his name: ‘InterSpray’s race around the World’ and ‘The Loneliest Race’.
