200 boats leave Las Palmas to begin their trans-Atlantic voyage

Almost 200 boats are preparing to leave Las Palmas today as they begin their 2700nm journey across the Atlantic as part of the 2012 Atlantic Rally for Cruisers.

The fleet was scheduled to depart Gran Canaria on Sunday but adverse weather conditions forced the World Cruising Club to delay the start of the ARC by two days. It’s the first time in 23 years that the start has been postponed.
