A barge-yacht, gaffers and white boat fun

Cruisers, dayboats and dinghies mustered for the Thames Estuary Nore Race on Saturday. There were 87 boats in all – down on the usual turnout – with a freshening west wind and mostly upwind course starting and finishing at Southend Pier.

Yachting Monthly journalist Dick Durham was co-skippering Sarah, a Trapper 500, with her owner Max Lieberson, an RYA cruising instructor and two crew.

She came third in class and seventh overall.
