Force 10 forecasted in Channel

Winds of up to 60mph have forced the closure of the Port of Dover.

Forecasters have predicted a storm force 10 in the English Channel and a severe weather warning has been issued by the Met Office.

Ferry services could face disruption all day. Passengers have been advised to contact their operator for further details on crossings.

A spokeswoman said: “The port has been closed in the interests of safety because of the high winds.”

She added: “We would ask passengers expected to travel to first contact their operator for further details.”
