Cammas and crew set new west to east Transatlantic record

With an almost unbelievable time of 4 days, 3 hours, 57 minutes and 54 seconds, 105 foot trimaran Groupama III set a new west to east transatlantic record last night, beating Bruno Peyron’s time on Orange II by almost 5 hours.

Franck Cammas and his crew sailed close to 3000 miles on the crossing between New York’s Ambrose Light and Lizard Point, at an average speed of 29 knots.

The new record is the second the team set on this voyage alone – they also broke the 24 hour speed record on Sunday, sailing 794 miles in 24 hours click here for previous story.
