Brief respite for UK before next onslaught of low pressure

The Met Office has warned that the UK will be hit by further severe weather this afternoon.

As shown on the map, there are warnings of gales (coloured in Red) in sea areas Viking, North Utsire, South Utsire, Forties, Cromarty, Forth, Tyne, Dogger, Fisher, German Bight, Humber, Thames, Dover, Wight, Portland, Plymouth, Biscay, FitzRoy, Trafalgar, Sole, Lundy, Fastnet, Irish Sea, Shannon, Rockall, Malin, Hebrides and Fair Isle.

Last night a gust of 71 knots (82 mph) was recorded at Berry Head, near Brixham, and the Port of Dover was closed amid cancellations of ferry sailings from ports all around the UK.
