Sailing world to pay tribute to Bear of Britain founder

Kit Hobday’s Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday September 27 at 14:30 in the Cowes Yacht Haven Events Centre, it was today announced. The service will bring together Kit’s many friends, competitors and crews to celebrate his remarkable life which sadly ended on June 20, 2006 following a long battle with prostate cancer.

Hobday’s death saddened much of the sailing community, and comments such as the one below posted on the Bear of Britain website book of condolences are testament to both the man and the sailor:

‘There are wood ships, and good ships, and ships that sail the sea.
But the best ships are friendships and may they always be.’

All are welcome to attend the service, but due to the large number of attendees expected, you are asked to pre-register at: www.bearofbritain.com/memorialservice/index.asp
