The dates have been set for Ellen's first charitable sailing trips

The dates have been set for Ellen’s first charitable sailing trips. The trust was set up during the London Boat Show in January to support, empower and enliven young people suffering from cancer or leukaemia by taking them sailing.

According to Ellen, “Meeting the challenge of sailing at sea, the children gain confidence and are reminded that there is life beyond their illness. At the same time they meet friends suffering from the same disease, which reminds them they are not alone in their struggle.”

The first two trips have now been organised for 18-20 July and 25-27 July in consultation with the charity Sargent Cancer Care. Ellen will join the children for both weekend trips on the Solent and boats and logistical support will be provided by the UK Sailing Association.

Last year Ellen became an Ambassador to the UKSA, itself a charity that regularly organises sailing for young people including the disadvantaged and disabled. David Green, Director UKSA said, “The Ellen MacArthur Trust is a wonderful new initiative and we’re honoured to support it.”
