From Cape Verdes to Barbados

Forty-eight crew will pay £2,000 each to sail four 65 ft yachts across the Atlantic in around two weeks this November. The world-shrinking passage has been designed to appeal to those who, on the 07.30 to Waterloo, dream of making such a voyage of a lifetime, but who are constrained by their nine til five jobs.

But by using the Cape Verde Islands as a starting point the Trade Winds are guaranteed, and from the capital Mindelo it is just 2,000 nautical miles of Atlantic Ocean to Barbados. On a fast sailing boat like the Farr 65 this means passages of 14-16 days are a reality.

The 3,600 mile Transatlantic Adventure will be in three legs: starting on 11 October from Cascais, near Lisbon in Portugal to Funchal, Madeira, from there to the Cape Verdes, and from the Cape Verdes to Barbados, arriving around 20 November. Crew can do a leg or the round trip.
