A few years ago, when Qingdao was announced as the venue for the 2008 Sailing Olympics, a well-known Olympian was quoted as saying:

“An Olympics in no wind?

It’ll be like skiing on grass.”

With Qingdao bay now resembling part of the Home Counties in springtime, perhaps he knew more than he was letting on!
