Robertson on home stretch, and cruising fleet doing well

1401hrs:

Now that the tide has turned against them, most of the boats coming up to the finish line close to the island, though there are a few further out towards the middle. The bulk of the fleet is at Ryde, but there is a solid wall of boats heading down the home stretch for a fast finish, too. The Alfred Myle classic gaffer Kelpie, built in 1903, has just finished, as has one of the Team Ellen MacArthur Trust entries, Scarlet Oyster.

Double Olympic gold medallist Shirley Robertson, racing against her Yngling crew in the J80 fleet, is at the front of the J80 fleet nearing the finish line, perhaps 10 or so away from it, with the other J80s 10 or 15 minutes behind her.

The wind has increased slightly at Bembridge Ledge, and is now 18/19 knots.
