360 panoramic views of the Regina 40 on test

I have always understood the advantages of the deck saloon – protection from the elements extends the sailing season and that means better value – but it’s in anchorages like the one at Tviklippen, near the Swedish island of Orust, that the concept leaps into a different league of sailing. After a day spent meandering among the clusters of low-lying, pebble-smooth and fir-coated islands north of Gothenburg, we dropped the hook and sat in the saloon transfixed by the tranquillity and beauty of our anchorage as the sun – and the temperature – dipped into night. It’s an utter joy to sit inside, with the heating and the stereo on, cocooned in mahogany and double glazing, and surrounded by scenery worthy of National Geographic. The Regina 40 is a brilliant ambassador for deck-saloon sailing.
