Gusts to approach 100mph in the north

Winds approaching 100mph are expected to batter parts of the UK this weekend.

Forecasts indicate that 92mph gusts and sustained wind speeds of 57mph across much of the Midlands, Northern England, Scotland and Ireland mean there is considerable risk of damage, especially to ill-prepared boats.

Insurers Navigators & General have warned that most policies exclude damage to biminis, covers and sails split by the wind because of the high frequency of such incidents so this is a particular area where owners should take precautions.
