A sick crewman was taken off the Tall Ship Prince William by the Gorleston lifeboat during a westerly gale.

The rescue services helicopter was told to stand down as it was felt trying to negotiate a Tall Ship’s masts in 40 knots of wind would have been too hazardous.

The man was taken to a local hospital and the ship later berthed in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.
