Cumbrian sailors are driving demand for berths in Whitehaven Marina

Whitehaven Marina has recorded a significant increase in demand for berths in 2015, following development work and investment over the previous year. Having taken the step of adding new berths in 2014, the marina is finding that the numbers of sailors keeping their boats in Whitehaven is rising rapidly.

140 new berths were constructed in the West Stand basin, which have been popular with annual berth holders and visitors and have proven useful for events such as the Whitehaven Festival and Three Peaks Race.

Marina Supervisor Tony Taylor said, ‘Berth holders are coming from all points of the compass but in particular from the Lakes, the East Coast around Newcastle and even as far as North Wales. It would appear that people are looking for new and exciting cruising grounds and Whitehaven is a great place for that.’

Whitehaven Marina has been owned by Marina Projects Ltd for the last six years, in which time it has sought to invest in both the facilities available and the level of service offered to customers.

‘We appreciate our customers time in the Marina is precious leisure time so everything has to be safe, clean and well organised with a friendly face,’ said Marina Manager Simon Morgan.
