Race first for Brian Thompson

Vendee sailor Brian Thompson finished on the bowsprit of Pindar his Open 60, punching the air with both fists as he took fifth place. His race time was 98 days 20 hours 29 minutes 55 seconds.

The theoretical distance he could have sailed in the non-stop, solo, round-the-world race is 24,840 miles, but he actually sailed 28,700 miles.

The time difference from winner Michel Desjoyeaux was 14 days, 17 hours and 20 minutes. It is the sailor’s first Vendee.
