Dorset welcomes their local hero

Vendee Globe ocean sailor Steve White, 36, the man the yachting press affectionately dubbed ‘the underdog’ for his shoestring and coronthian approach to the multi-million pound sport, has become a local hero in his native Dorset. People are now stopping him in the street to ask for his autograph.

More importantly for Steve, who has a wife and four children to support, the spanking new Dean & Reddyhoff Marina at Portland has offered him a free berth for his Open 60 Toe In The Water. She is now the biggest draw to the waters of Weymouth Bay.

This week the YM team went sailing with Steve and his wife Kim.
