Lone rower Colin Yeates, 47, was wrecked in his boat off the east coast of Antarctica after just 20 miles into a bid to pull round the South Pole.

His four-year plan foundered after the £30,000 boat was driven onto rocks in strong currents.

The former Merchant Navy seaman from Hampshire was rescued but the boat is a write-off.
