£1,000 cheque handed over

Saltash Sailing Club have received £1000 as one of the winners of the 2009 Volvo Eco Challenge. The money will be used to fund an environmental project designed by the club aimed at reducing energy.

Nick Jones from local Volvo dealer, Riders Truro presented the cheque for a thousand pounds to Vice Commodore David Oliver and Rear Commodore Andy Green from the club.

This money will be used to install an interceptor at the club, which removes grease, oil, dirt and other pollution from wastewater before it enters the sewer system.

The Volvo Eco Challenge was set up to provide grants of up to £1,000 to sailing clubs across the UK for young people aged between 10 -16 to undertake an environmental initiative at their club.  Saltash Sailing Club was awarded the maximum grant available.
