Global Challenge Round the World Yacht Race gets nearer

Princess Anne will officially name the Save the Children yacht for the Global Challenge Round the World yacht race 2004/2005 on 21 July at St Katharine’s Dock, London. Team Save the Children is a 72-foot steel ocean racing yacht adorned with eye-catching brightly coloured drawings on sails and yacht.

Pitted against 11 identical yachts, Team Save the Children will race around the world ‘the wrong way’ stopping in Buenos Aires, Wellington, Sydney, Cape Town, Boston and La Rochelle before returning to Portsmouth ten months later.

The Save the Children yacht is being sponsored by a consortium of companies lead by Basilica computing.  It will be crewed by an enthusiastic group of amateur sailors and skippered by Paul Kelly, a professional sailor, most of whom will be present at the naming ceremony.
