Sir Robin Knox-Johnston was voted Yachtsman of the Year by the Yachting Journalists’ Association at a gala lunch sponsored by Boats.com in Trinity House, London, on Tuesday 13 January.

Racing his Open 60 Grey Power, Sir Robin, 75, finished third in 2014 in the Rhum class in the singlehanded Route du Rhum race, from Saint Malo to Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe.

He receives Yachtsman of the Year award for an unprecedented fourth time. The first award, in 1969, recognized his completion of the first ever solo, non-stop circumnavigation. The second award, received jointly with Sir Peter Blake in 1994, was for circumnavigating non-stop onboard the 92ft catamaran ENZA in just under 75 days, and he won it a third time in 2007 for circumnavigating solo in his Open 60 during the Velux 5 Oceans race.
