Boat heads for Azores

The Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC) yacht Geisha, a Beneteau First 47, skippered by Croatian Damir Repre has been dismasted and is heading for the Azores under jury rig. Another boat, Blue Yonder, has diverted to the Cape Verde Islands following shroud damage.

More than 200 ARC yachts have been creeping south towards the Cape Verde Islands, some 600 nautical miles south of the starting point in Gran Canaria. A complicated low pressure system mid-Atlantic has diverted the seasonal tradewinds, meaning a southerly route for most. But now the light winds and dull days of motor-sailing are passed and yachts have reporting enjoyable sailing during the last 24 hours and some are beginning to head west.
