Titanic menus to be auctioned at Sotheby's

Menus from the first and last lunches served aboard the doomed liner Titanic are part of an auction being held at Sotheby’s of London on 2 December.

They form the archive of second officer, Herbert Lightoller, which is being sold off by his grand-daughter.

Lightoller who died in 1952, carried out a survey of the German coastline for the Admiralty in 1939, while he and his wife posed as yachting couple in their boat Sundowner. In the same boat Lightoller, then aged 66, rescued 130 men from the beaches of Dunkirk.
