Sound waves used on damaged hull

Sound waves are being bounced over the hull of HUGO BOSS to determine the best way to repair Alex Thomson’s Vendee Globe boat which was damaged after a collision with a French fishing boat.

To ensure they arrive to the start on November 9th for the
Solo, non-stop, round-the-world race, the team from Alex Thomson Racing have been working around the clock since the collision on 17 October and are now using ultrasound to check the structure.

Sir Keith Mills (Chairman of Alex Thomson Racing) has brought in support staff from Team ORGIN in the form of Team Director Mike Sanderson, Shore Operations Director David Duff and others to assist Alex in
making the start line a reality.

The mast, which came down during the incident was broken five metres from the deck, but luckily it was recovered. David Barnaby from Southern
Spars has been on site and the mast has been deemed repairable. All the
sails were recovered and remarkably were undamaged, they have been sent to
North sails France to be serviced.
