The Cruising Association will be hosting a seminar on man overboard recovery for short-handed crews by Jonty and Carol Pearce

Do you know what to do if a crew member falls overboard? Do you think you could get them back on deck?

Jonty and Carol Pearce were featured in an article in Yachting Monthly earlier this year, How an 8st woman can recover a 20st man (YM, January 2015), and they have been invited to a man overboard seminar held by the Cruising Association.

Depending on the situation, they will use either the MOBmat or the Rescue Sling with the handy-billy

The one-day seminar, being held at CA House in Limehouse Basin on November 7, is aimed particularly at cruising couples.

Major issues covered will include the immediate management of the boat, various methods available for getting the casualty back on board and immediate first aid that might be required.

‘The Cruising Association feels this is an important subject for cruisers to get to grips with. Anyone going cruising short-handed needs to know how to get a MOB back on board, and this seminar will give everyone serious food for thought, and the chance to plan their own MOB response,’ said Beryl Chalmers.

Prices for the seminar are as follows:

  • Member £35, or £30 for early booking before 24 October
  • Members (couple) £60, or £55 for early booking
  • Non-members £55 each, with £20 back off first year’s sub if they join by direct debit on the day.
