Sheep farmer pledges freight of wool for GMIV

Australian sheep farmer Richard Ham has offered Gipsy Moth IV a token bale of wool from his New South Wales herd.

Richard has promised to bale up some merino wool as a package for GMIV to sail back to Plymouth in celebration of both Sir Francis Chichester’s voyage 40 years ago in which he tried to match the clipper ships’ average speed and the centenary of Yachting Monthly which falls next year.

Richard came to look over GMIV as she lay alongside in Santa Cruz, Tenerife. He is sailing his own yacht, Seabird, around the world.
