From her etched stainless-steel pop-up cleats to her recessed mainsheet traveller it’s clear Italia Yachts 12.98 has spent time attending to some beautiful details. The twin carbon wheels are well outboard thanks to cut-outs in the coaming, the Lewmar ST45 are in front of the wheels, the ST 50 winches on the coaming – more inboard than usual. The teak in the cockpit is silky smooth, by contrast, the nonslip on deck has a deep Artex-like stipple texture. The deck is white and clutter free; a recessed sprayhood and the lines for the coachroof genoa tracks led, like the rest of the mast lines and genoa sheets, under deck back to the cockpit. This all helps to keep the styling clean and minimal.
Below decks the curved veneer work is simply beautiful, without corner pieces to break up the visual harmony the grain flows from cabinet to locker front to bulkhead without visual interruption. In the aft cabin the hull sides are while but for a swathe of teak surrounding the berth, the teak again in contrast to the white.
The L-shaped galley to port has high fiddles in the white worktop. It’s not the biggest of galleys for the size of boat, but the roomy saloon with U-shaped seating to port makes up for it. To starboard is more seating, aft of which is a small, but practical, chart table which slides aft. Chart plotters/instruments can be fitted in the locker front forward of the chart table, these can then open and lock in place for the navigator. There is one heads compartment behind the chart table and another (en suite) for the forward cabin.
But one of the most outstanding features is out of sight, a carbon frame beneath the floor and lightweight construction methods keep her weight to less than 8,000kg,
