How to build your own pocket cruiser

A legendary ocean sailor is giving a lecture on how to build your own pocket offshore cruiser for less than the price of a second-hand car. Roger Taylor’s talk: Creating a pocket ocean cruiser, the making of Mingming II will be held at the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club at Burnham-on-Crouch on 1 February.

The singlehanded sailor, boatbuilder and author has been ocean sailing for over 45 years. He built his first ocean-going yacht in his early twenties. In this talk, illustrated with superb slides and video footage, he describes the creation of his latest yacht Mingming II.

The talk goes right back to Roger’s formative years as a sailor and boatbuilder, and describes the development of his ideas on the construction of safe, easily handled and inexpensive cruisers. It follows in detail the concepts behind Mingming II, her design and physical creation, and assesses her sailing performance.

The talk is open to the general public for £5 which includes lunch. Contact

Yachting Monthly will feature Roger’s new boat in the March issue out soon.
