Sugar scoop. A stainless steel receptacle used to weigh out cough candy that I remember from my childhood.

When the phrase sugar scoop stern was coined I pictured immediately the aft end of a yacht launching bikini-clad crew into warm Caribbean seas.

But the sea is not always like that.
