An organisation called the Belfast Titanic Convention is seeking stories, photographs and memorabilia from historians and ship-spotters to become part of a 'centenary celebration' to mark the launch of the White Star liner in 1911.
The four-funnelled giant slid beneath the ice-cold waters of the North Atlantic in April 1912 having hit an ice-berg. More than 1,500 passengers and crew were lost.
It's a strange thing to celebrate. Will some society gather together stories to celebrate the building of HMS Hood, the Herald of Free Enterprise or perhaps the Piper Alpha oil rig?

Well it was a suprise to see a cutpire of Lollypoppit' featured in your article. She has been the subject of a three year restoration mostly below the waterline and is back in pretty good condition now. She has also just completed a move to her new home in South West Ireland after making her way there via Falmouth and the Scillies. A fantastic little seaboat well able in strong winds but carrying a lot of weather helm. It seems her mainsail is just to big and the plan is to get two feet cut off the back edge and shorten the boom accordingly. A lovely boat with a huge personality embedded into her by her previous long term owners. Long may she sail on.David Precious
