Sailors are warned to check their boats before the weekend as a Force 9 gale is expected

The Met Office has issued gale warnings for much of the UK over the coming weekend. The South Coast and Channel Islands are expected to be hardest hit, with winds forecast to reach over 40 knots (Force 9).

Many boats are now out of the water for the winter, but may still be susceptible to damage. All yachts are reminded to check that furling sails are secure or removed, mooring lines are secure, and dinghies or open boats are bailed out.

Ports of Jersey has said that the Elizabeth Marina Storm Gate has been closed and is likely to remain shut until Monday. It is encouraging its berth holders to ‘ensure boat covers and sails are well secured and vessels are bailed out’.
