YM is written through him like Brighton through rock

Yachting Monthly’s new editor is Kieran Flatt, 38, who has been the magazine’s Production Editor for the last four years. His appointment follows the announcement of the retirement in February of current editor, Paul Gelder, who has worked on the magazine for 22 years.

Kieran, an experienced journalist with strong sailing credentials, will take over as the 11th editor of the magazine. Simon Owen, publishing director says: ‘I’m very much looking forward to working with Kieran in his new role – he knows the brand inside out and is full of the ideas and enthusiasm to further develop our print and digital products. Yachting Monthly has enjoyed a phenomenally successful year and I know that Kieran and his team will be eager to build on this.’

Simon adds: ‘I wish Paul all the very best for the future – he has been at the heart of key Yachting Monthly landmarks over the last 10 years of his editorship, including the restoration of Gipsy Moth IV, the magazine’s centenary in 2006 and more recently the hugely successful “Crash Test Boat” series. Paul will be a tough act to follow, but I’ve no doubt that Kieran is more than up to the job.”

Kieran, who takes up his new position on February 20th, said: ‘I’m thrilled to be taking the helm of Britain’s best sailing magazine and consider myself very lucky to be leading such a diligent, knowledgeable and enthusiastic team. We are already working hard to consolidate the stellar success we have achieved in the last year and redoubling our efforts to attract new readers.’

Paul Gelder added: ‘It’s been a privilege and a passion to edit YM over the last 10 years. The time to retire is when you still have some wind in your sails! My 65th birthday is a good time to hand over to a new watch and I know Kieran will keep a steady hand on the tiller.’
