Memories of the Torry Canyon oil disaster linger still...

Mariners are advised that an oil spill booming exercise will take place in Chichester Harbour on 22 and 23 October 2001.

The boom, which will have a chicane gap in it to allow the passage of vessels at all times, will stretch between: 50o 48 .55 N 00o 52′.15 W – The Northshore Yachts Ltd pontoon, Itchenor 50o 48′.70 N 00o 52 .59 W – Cobnor Point.

Unlighted buoyed ground tackle, to anchor the boom, will be laid along the proposed line of the boom.The boom will be deployed and recovered between the hours of sunrise and sunset.
