Epic restarts from Freemantle this Sunday, 14 January

Sir Robin Knox-Johnston and his junior Velux peers are preparing themselves for a potentially gritty second round with the Southern Ocean. The second leg of the Velux 5 Oceans race re-starts from Freemantle Harbour, Western Australia, (see above chart) this Sunday, 14 January. The longest leg of the race, competitors will sail back into the Southern Ocean, around Cape Horn and then north up the length of the Atlantic to Norfolk, Virginia at the mouth of the Chesapeake.

Freemantle Sailing Club will be hosting the departure ceremony at 1130 local time, in preparation for the 1500 start gun. We’ll keep you updated on all the latest news from the race course as it happens, or see www.velux5oceans.com for live footage and audio from the boats.
