Raymond Jeckells: a legend in sail-cloth

Veteran sailmaker Raymond Jeckells has died aged 82. Raymond William Jeckells was born in Lowestoft and headed up one of the oldest businesses in Norfolk and was a fiercely competitive sailor always looking to innovate – he became the first sailmaker to successfully fit a window into a sail.

He was also a long-time supporter of the British Marine Federation and exhibitor at the UK boats shows.

He leaves behind a widow, Gillian, two sons; Stephen and Christopher, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

A service of thanksgiving will be held at St. Benedict’s Church, Horning.
