Frenchman Francis Joyon is will attempt to break the single-handed round-the-world multihull record later this year - on a prestigious trimaran

46 year old veteran sailor, Francis Joyon, plans to break the single-handed multihull world record of 125 days, which has been held by fellow countryman Olivier de Kersauson for the past 15 years – using the same boat. The 17 year old (former ‘Un autre regard’) 27m trimaran, now rebadged ‘IDEC’, is being fitted out once again for solo use, so the married father of two can set off this winter. Only three people have attempted this record on multihulls before. Joyon, a former winner of the Transatlantic race Europe 1 Newman Star, not only hopes to eclipse de Kersauson’s time but also beat the absolute solo circumnavigation record of 93 days set by Michel Desjoyeaux in the last Vendee Globe.
