Solo yachtswoman at the Palace



Solo yachtswoman Jeanne Socrates, was among top sailors to visit Buckingham Palace to meet the Queen and Prince Philip to mark the centenary of Captain Scott’s final expedition to the South Pole.

The 67-year-old ocean adventurer who has spent the last few years pursuing her goal to complete a single-handed circumnavigation told YM; ‘It was an awesome evening and a real privilege.’

Also at the reception were Ellen MacArthur, Sam Davies and Sydney-based veteran circumnavigator Alex Whitworth. The reception was held to recognise the accomplishments of those involved in exploration and adventure in all its forms.   
 
Mrs Socrates added: ‘I chatted to a very enthusiastic Princess Beatrice and then to the Duke of Kent who were both thoroughly enjoying the evening and the variety of people there.’
