Channel 4 stars to give lecture

Adam Nicholson and George Fairhurst, the stars of Channel 4 documentary ‘Atlantic Britain’, will be arriving at the Maritime Museum in Falmouth on October 13 to give an evening lecture about their adventures.

Adam Nicholson took the decision to leave his farm life in Sussex to embark on a mid life crisis adventure. Equipped with The Auk, a beautiful 42-foot wooden ketch, he sets off for the Atlantic coasts of the British Isles. He had never sailed anything bigger than a dinghy before in his life.

Adam took out a second mortgage and bought The Auk and invited his friend George Fairhurst, who at least knows how to sail, to tackle the sea with him. The journey, from the Scilly Isles, up the west coast of Ireland, through the Hebrides, Orkney and beyond, is a 1,500 mile sea trek along one of the world’s most inspiring landscapes.

The third star of the show their faithful boat, The Auk, will be moored up on the museum pontoon until 15 October. On Wednesday October 13 Adam and George will be down on the pontoon with their boat from 2.30pm to share their experience with visitors. The lecture begins at 6.30pm and tickets cost just £5 for the lecture or £12.50 with a hot buffet. Advance booking is advised. Call 01326 214 557.
