She will be accompanied by Sarah Treseder

RYA President HRH the Princess Royal will be officially opening the RYA’s brand new multipurpose facility, RYA Portland House, as well as showing her support for some of sailings rising young stars at the RYA Volvo Youth National Championships on Wednesday, 7 April in Weymouth and Portland.

Accompanied by dignitaries and new RYA CEO Sarah Treseder, HRH will unveil a plaque to mark the facility open after which she will have a guided tour of the facility which provides accommodation, conference facilities and a home for the British sailing team in the lead up to the 2012 Olympics.

HRH will then continue to Dean & Reddyhoff’s Portland Marina to be given a behind the scenes tour of Skandia Team GBR’s state of the art performance unit before taking to the water at Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy to enjoy the spectacle of over 250 of the country’s top young sailors vying for National Championship honours and selection onto RYA Volvo Team GBR, the team competing at the ISAF Youth Sailing Volvo World Championships, held in Istanbul Turkey in July.

Sarah Treseder commented; “We’re delighted that HRH The Princess Royal will be joining us in April to show her continued support for the RYA by opening RYA Portland House, which will play an integral part in preparations for our sailors at the 2012 games as well as providing a lasting legacy for sailing in the country.”

RYA Volvo Youth National Championships Principal Race Officer, David Campbell-James added; “It’s fantastic to have HRH’s support once again for the event which is one of the most important regattas for young sailors in the country. Having visited us in Largs last year where conditions forced the cancellation of racing for the royal visit, we hope the weather in Weymouth will allow young competitors to showcase their skills in front of HRH and provide some exciting racing for her to enjoy.”
