'We are going to hit it!' - ferry crew recalls

‘We are going to hit’, called ferry crewman Dave Smith as he saw a yacht cross in front of the Pride of Bilboa.

Mr Smith said he raced across the bridge to see what had happened to the yacht.

Mr Smith was giving evidence at Winchester Crown Court in the trial of the P&O ferry’s officer of the watch, Michael Hubble.

Hubble denies manslaughter of the three men through gross negligence, and three counts of conduct as a seaman likely to cause them death or serious injury.

The trial follows the disappearance of the yacht Ouzo and the death of its three crew.
