Charles Currey sailed with Uffa Fox

Charles Currey, who won a silver medal in the Finn class at the Helsinki Olympics in 1952, has died aged 104.

He sailed successfully in several different classes of dinghy including the International 14, National 12, Firefly and Finn.

He developed the first trapeze and worked with Uffa Fox on the hot-moulded designs produced by Fairey Aviation/Marine, including the flying lifeboat dropped from planes to downed air crew, the Firefly – the first mass produced racing dinghy – and Prince of Wales cup-winning International 14s.
