Britain's Olympic sailing heroes will open the 2016 Southampton Boat Show this Friday, 16 September

Fresh from their endeavours in Rio de Janeiro, the British Olympic sailing team will be on hand to open the 2016 Southampton Boat Show. Gold medalists Hannah Mills, Saskia Clark and Giles Scott, and silver medalist Nick Dempsey, as well as the rest of the team, are lending a touch of racing pedigree to the show’s start at Mayflower Park in Southampton on Friday. They will open the show formally at a ceremony at 11.00.

The  Southampton Boat Show kicks off on 16 September and runs until 25 September. Now in its 48th year, the Southampton Boat Show 2016 will showcase the  best that the international sailing and boating world has to offer. There will be close to 600 brands on show and hundreds of boats on display, including 330 yachts in the show’s marina. With over 2km of pontoons, the show boasts one of Europe’s largest purpose-built marinas. The event also plays host to lots of family-friendly attractions as well as plenty of opportunities for visitors to get out on the water for free.

  • Bryony Shaw (Women’s RS:X windsurfer)
  • Nick Thompson (double Laser World Champion)
  • Alison Young (reigning Laser Radial World Champion)
