New internet presence for Round the World Yacht Race and 5-Oceans Race

Clipper Ventures plc, the marine events group chaired by Sir Robin Knox-Johnston has a new-look website.

During the ten-month Clipper 05-06 Round the World Yacht Race, the website will provide fleet position updates in real time, leg results and commentary about the races from the skippers and crews. Following the appointment of the race’s ten professional skippers and the allocation of their crews, the site will also provide in-depth profiles on the teams and their city sponsors.

The site will be used to communicate with the entire Clipper community and, as in Clipper’s previous round the world races, supporters will have the chance to opt for regular newsletters once registered using a designated email address.

A newly created internet-based education programme will also act as an online resource; making Clipper 05-06 information available to schoolchildren around the globe. The programme will focus on the different aspects of the natural world that the Clipper fleet will encounter on its 35,000-mile circumnavigation, including weather systems and energy, wildlife, geography, nutrition and culture – all with the aim of helping international schoolchildren to understand each other’s lives and discover more about their environment and the Oceans which divide them.

5-Oceans is the second race in the Clipper Ventures stable. The next race starts in 2006 and a downloadable English version of the 5-Oceans Notice of Race is available on the race’s dedicated section of the Clipper website.
