Redundancy for 25 workers as slump continues

The Swedish luxury boatbuilder Najadvarvet is to make 25 workers redundant, reports Lars-Åke Redéen in IBI Magazine. This follows 16 redundancies earlier this year and another 21 in 2008. Najadvarvet currently employs 144 people at its main factory on the island of Orust, and another 40 at a mould factory in Åmål.

“We’re actively looking at how we can adjust to the market situation. We can see some improvements but not in the speed we had hoped for,” says Magnus Ridderstad, sales and marketing director of Najadvarvet.

“We now have a new management structure and a new organisation, we’ll have to adjust after the market situation.”

Last week Najadvarvet announced that Per Lindquist has replaced Alfred van Wincoop, who owns Najadvarvet, as managing director.
