Death yacht thrown up after weeekend storm

Wreckage thrown up on the Hampshire coastline after the weekend storms could be part of the missing yacht Ouzo, which disappeared in the English Channel in the summer. Police teams and coastguards searched an area near Sandy Point after wreckage was found at Hayling Island.

The Ouzo left Bembridge for Dartmouth on the 20 August.

All three crew members, Jason Downer, 35, from Kent, Rupert Saunders, 36, and James Meaby, 36, both from London, were later found to have died at sea.

Coastguards said they received no Mayday distress call from the 27ft (8.2m) Sailfish sloop and the only part of the yacht that was recovered was a fender.

In September, a 61-year-old P&O employee was arrested in connection with the deaths and released on police bail until February.
