Over the sea for cash

Alan Rankin will attempt to sail solo non-stop and cycle round Scotland to raise funds for Ocean Youth Trust Scotland and the Parkinson’s Disease Society. The 900 mile voyage from Kirkcudbright on the Solway Firth, round Shetland, to Berwick upon Tweed, starts in April.

Alan (48) from Blairgowrie has been preparing for the challenge over the
winter and the planning is going well. ‘We have completed most of the
preparation on the boat, having stripped out excess weight and run full
checks on all the rigging, sails and electrical systems.’ The sailing leg of
the challenge will be aboard Pegasus, a 50-foot yacht.

The cycle route from the NE coast of England crosses the border back into Scotland at Gretna is 145 miles and has an overall climb of 8500 ft. To make donations go to www.soloroundscotland.com
