Joyon gets closer to record

Francis Joyon, in his 97ft trimaran IDEC, has been working his way up the Brazilian coastline, and is nearly at the eastern most tip of the country (and continent), where he will break away and cross the Atlantic toward the finish at Brest, France.

With 4,079 nm remaining, Joyon’s has slightly improved on his advance of 2,504 nm over the 2005 record for a solo circumnavigation of the globe set by Ellen MacArthur of 71d 14h 18m 33s (12.66 speed
average). www.trimaran-idec.com
