Building societies consider floating homes as global warming increases sea levels

Mortgage lenders and insurance companies are looking at amphibious homes in Holland as an alternative to bricks and mortar as fears of sea level increases due to global warming grow.

They are worried that 10 per cent of England and Wales is a flood plain on which sit 1.8 million homes.

The areas under threat include the Thames Estuary, The Wash, the River Humber, and the Bristol Channel.
